Ask A Local: Changes to the EPIC Pass for the 2020-2021 Ski Season

May 28, 2020

Here at American Ski Exchange, we are avid skiers and boarders. As a result, we have been interested to learn about the changes to the Epic Pass for next season. We are sure you are too! Here is a summary of the information we could find. However, we do recommend referencing the Epic Pass website, because information is continually updated.

What is the price of an Epic Pass or Epic Local Season Pass for 2020-2021 compared to 2019-2020?

The price of an Epic Pass and Epic Local Season Pass has increased for the 2020-2021 ski season.

2020 changes to epic pass

What are the 2 main new features included in the Epic Pass, Epic Local Pass, and Epic Day Pass for the 2020-2021 Ski Season?

  1. 2019/2020 Pass Holder Credit
  2. Epic Coverage

Do I get any money back or credit for my 2019-2020 Epic Pass, Epic Local Pass, or Epic Day Pass due to Vail Mountain closing early?

2020 epic pass changes

As many of you know, Vail Mountain closed unexpectedly after COVID-19 made its appearance in the Colorado Rockies. The mountain officially closed on March 15th and did not reopen for the remainder of season. It was a sad day for locals, as well as for the tourists who had planned on skiing and snowboarding over Spring Break and Easter.

As a result, Vail Resorts has decided to give 2019-2020 Epic Pass, Epic Local Pass, and Epic Day pass holders a 20%-80% credit to be used towards a 2020-2021 pass based on the number of used days in 2019. 2019-2020 pass holders should have received an email with their credit breakdown on May 13, 2020. The amount of your credit can only be used towards your purchase of a 2020-2021 season pass until September 7, 2020. If the credit is not used by September 7, 2020, (Labor Day) you will lose the credit completely.

How do I secure the maximum number of Buddy Tickets with my Epic Pass or Epic Local Pass?

Usually, you would need to purchase an Epic Pass or Epic Local Pass by Spring in order to get the maximum number of Buddy Tickets. However, the deadline has been extended to Labor Day (September 7, 2020). If you pay for either season pass by then, you are able to secure 10 Buddy Tickets! A Buddy Ticket is a daily pass for a friend up to 40% off the daily price of a ski or snowboard ticket. Not a bad deal for your friends visiting you from other states who want to ski or snowboard.
